I’m running a half marathon to raise money for The FMG Project. I’ve worked with this incredible charity for the past two years, and sadly, the time has come for me to move on.
Running this race is a small way of showing my appreciation and respect for the charity, and for the excellent work Sam and the team do every single day.
What does the charity do?
The FMG Project runs free, gym-based coaching programmes for local young people who face barriers to taking part in sport and exercise.
The young people FMG supports are often navigating things most of us never had to deal with at their age. Some have additional needs, some come from difficult or disadvantaged backgrounds, and some are recovering from injury or illness. All of them are trying to find their way in a world that doesn’t always make things easy for them.
Through physical exercise and supportive coaching, FMG helps young people grow in confidence, resilience, teamwork and communication skills.
I’ve personally been involved in so many incredible transformations over the 10-week programmes. I almost always cry with pride on graduation day because of the powerful work this charity does. It really is remarkable, and something I know I would have hugely benefited from when I was younger. The more young people FMG can support, the better!
About the run:
I’m very comfortable playing sports and lifting weights, but long-distance running is way outside my comfort zone. Before training for this challenge, I’d never run more than 10km.
So far, the training has been tough... especially alongside a very active coaching job (i'm already doing 15,000 steps a day) plus the challenge of staying focused and sticking to a rigid programme with raging ADHD. I'm also hungry ALL the time!
Still, I’m determined to finish this two-year journey with The FMG Project on a high and raise some money for a charity that’s given me two years of the best job I could have asked for.
Any donation, big or small, will help FMG continue creating life-changing opportunities for young people.
Thank you so much for your support 💛
